Treatment
When the callus continues to return on a chronic basis and conservative care fails, sometimes an osteotomy is performed to relieve the pressure on the bone. The metatarsal bone is cut in a "V" shape. The end of the bone is then lifted and aligned with the other bones. The "V" shape holds the bone in its new position, preventing it from rocking to the left or right.
